2012 Battle.net World Championship

This year for Blizzard & eSports will be of epic proportions as they will be providing major competitive events for World of Warcraft and Starcraft 2. This of course means that there will be no BlizzCon 2012. This will allow Blizzard have more time squeezing out their three current games in development.

Blizzard Entertainment is proud to announce the 2012 Battle.net World Championship, a major global eSports event featuring some of the best pro-gaming competition in the world. Slated to take place in Asia toward the end of 2012, the Battle.net World Championship will host this year’s StarCraft II and World of Warcraft Arena World Championship tournaments. Blizzard gamers and eSports fans from around the world will be invited to attend and witness some of the most skilled pro players on the planet battle it out for cash and glory.

We’re excited to be showcasing Blizzard eSports on a truly global stage this year. We're also heavily focused on getting Diablo III, Mists of Pandaria, and Heart of the Swarm into players’ hands as soon as possible. In light of our jam-packed schedule, we’ve decided to hold the next BlizzCon in 2013.

Blizzard announce 2012 Battle.net World Invitational, BlizzCon postponed until 2013

It was confirmed on Battle.net that Blizzard will not host their annual convention in 2012. Instead, the company's attention will be focused on their upcoming titles and the next edition of the Battle.net World Invitational. In October 2011, Anaheim hosted the Battle.net World Invitational that brought together some of the best StarCraft 2 players and World of WarCraft 3v3 arena teams. This year, the show is moving out of the United States and will travel to Asia. The announcement of the Bnet World Invitational comes with the news that there will be no BlizzCon held this year. The annual convention will not return until 2013 because of Blizzard's busy schedule, that includes three titles currently under development. Gambit Cup All Star Weekend

The Gambit's Cup All-Star Game is a sponsored 8-man single elimination tournament that features the best players of the top Gambit Cup teams. Next weekend, on Friday, January 27, 20CET, we will have one special weekend in Gambit Cup. We will have a showmatch played between the first and the second team from the ongoing season, LRM and Nb. which will have a $30 prize pool, the winner takes it all. After the showmatch we will have the All Star tournament which will consist of 8 players from the top 4 teams: LRM, Nb, Gt and iFU. LRM and Nb will be sending 3 players each and Gt and iFU one player each. The amount of players sent per team is determinated by their current position in the Gambit Cup. The winner of the All Star tournament will be awarded with $50. The whole thing is going to be casted by Sayle over at his twitch.tv stream.

Heart Of The Swarm Starts Voice Recording

Hey guys, haven’t had much to update for in a while due to no real news coming out for HoTS since Blizzcon. One news item came up a day ago with the voice of Kerrigan, Tricia Helfer, posted on her Twitter account a picture of herself in the recording studio and talking about the voice recording process starting for the script of the game.

This means the script should be all set in stone, and a big step is underway. Still no news on when the Beta that was announced will be coming out (My guess is late February or mid Spring) though.

Altitude Nation Wars end

After at least two months of Nation Wars, the Altitude Nation Wars season ends with a top nation showing us who's the boss. It's been quite some while that Nation Wars were an active part of the foreign scene and that players practiced simply to become part of their nation's teams. Now, this time came and all nations had the chance to prove themselves once more and teams no less than Russia, Poland, Germany and the USA stood for themselves, while there were some region based teams to make sure every team has a good amount of players. The grand finale was played last saturday and the opposing nations were non others than the European Poland and the North American USA. Here is a view at the line ups and the result. Protest PIPA and SOPA

In response to the two bills in congress, H.R.3261 "Stop Online Piracy Act" and S.968 "PROTECT IP", we here at the Armory would like to raise awareness. These bills would destroy the internet as we know it, allowing ISPs to blacklist domains, enforce copyright that would restrict user-generated content and new innovative ideas. Unlike the Armory, other major internet giants have gone dark in protest of these bills. Please give your support to Reddit.com, Wikipedia.org, Google.com, Wordpress.org, Mozilla.org and many others by contacting your representatives and letting them know how terrible these bills are.

Spent a little time this weekend implementing a IRC chat system into the website. The chat is currently hooked up to the QuakeNet IRC servers and will auto-join the #armory and #teamliquid channels. As of now, the chat is using an embedded QuakeNet iframe chat but I am open to test alternative systems.

If you have any suggestions on another system to use, or features that you would like, be sure to send your feedback to this thread.
