StarCraft II Beta Release Date

Posted by Leord on May 20th, 2012 filed in StarCraft News

StarCraft II is nearing its Beta (as we have said time and time again) and Blizzard have even a date set for it, even if the date is currently secret. Our beloved Xordiah attended the ESL weekend in Vienna, and had a long chat with a German fan, who among other things heard that Blizzard have a set (secret) date for the Closed Beta!

While it's disappointing to not have the actual date, it's great to hear that Blizzard have at least organized an internal schedule for planning towards the actual game's release!

We have translated the German fan's summary of the StarCraft 2 info summary:
  • Blizzard has a fixed date for the beta, however, it's still a secret.
  • The multiplayer part of the game is basically done, except for a few details.
  • There will be several opportunities to participate in the beta to come (including competitions, perhaps a kind of story competition or similar).
  • In the current build (internally at Blizzard), there is a Dark Pylon with a cool ability, which enables Probes to harvest faster within the reach of the Pylon.
  • The Command Center can now use a new cool ability that creates a "bigger" SCV which is better at harvesting.
  • Supply depots can be upgraded to give +2 Supply.
  • Xordiah, who is a "Protoss Fetishist", is Very Happy.
  • This build's Immortals are extremely strong.

The German post can be found in one of the pages of this thread.
