Rumour: StarCraft II Beta in March

Posted by Leord on September 6th, 2010 filed in StarCraft News

A rumour was started on Battle.net last night, with the speculation that the StarCraft II Beta will start in March. Blazur on USEast StarCraft Battle.net claims to have found a ReCaptcha picture that looks like this:

Now, you might say that the ReCaptcha images always comes in 6 letters, but the Battle.net version varies between 6-8 characters in a few tests made by StarCraftWire.net, and 9 isn't far off of 8. Besides, if this is in fact a little trick to play with our minds, like the Diablo 2 (and Diablo 3) "Chat Gems", it's not likely to follow any particular patterns. God knows Blizzard have messed with fans' heads before, and not saying anything until a big surprise comes down on us.

That background used is very different from the traditionally "WoW-ish" ones on Battle.net, with stars instead of WoW landscapes. As Blazur points out, it would be hard to make a PhotoShop image look so similar in terms of the actual letters. Could this be Blizzard implanting rare hints on when the beta is released, or is it just Blazur trying to bring down Blizzard's ReCaptcha software?

Another fan (jokingly) said that he got the "bet4wn1tsrdy" picture (beta when it's ready)...

You can try yourself by just refreshing this news item, and the image below, the official ReCaptcha image producer of Battle.net, will change accordingly!

UPDATE!

The Battle.net ReCaptcha image seems to have stopped working. We'll keep you posted on the issue.
